Man travelled 140 miles to rob woman in her home

A "violent criminal" who travelled 140 miles (225km) to attack and rob a woman inside her home has been jailed for seven and a half years.
Shiguang Zhong, 41, of Eden Road, Rugby, confronted the woman inside her property on Freeman Street in Grimsby, along with four other men, just before 01:00 GMT on 16 October 2024.
Humberside Police said Zhong had violently assaulted the woman while demanding money before he tied her hands up and then fled the scene in a vehicle.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery on 21 March at Grimsby Crown Court and was sentenced on 10 April.
'Terrifying ordeal'
Following the incident, Zhong was arrested four days later after a member of the public heard someone shouting for help from the property and had called police.
Detectives said his GPS tag, which he was wearing because of a previous offence, showed he had travelled from Birmingham to Grimsby to commit the crime.
The getaway vehicle was captured on CCTV in the Freeman Street area and officers identified Zhong as the registered keeper.
Humberside Police described Zhong as "a violent criminal who subjected a woman to a terrifying ordeal".
Det Con Jak Shepherd said: "Nobody should be made to feel unsafe in their own home, and the aftermath of this terrible offence left the victim fearing for her life.
"This type of offending will not be tolerated and I am pleased that Zhong is being held accountable for his crimes."
