A woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a motorway collision involving five vehicles.

Five people were hurt, two of them seriously, in the incident on the M1 southbound near junction five for Watford at about 16:40 BST on Friday.

Police said it involved a white Ford Fiesta, a skip loader, a blue Mini Cooper, a black Ford Focus and a black Volvo XC90.

Sgt David McIlwhan from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit said: "The road was busy at the time and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to please make contact."
