Fire severely damages National Express coach

A National Express coach has been left burned out following a fire that led to a large emergency service response.

The fire happened in the Honicknowle area of Plymouth at about 14:10 GMT on Thursday and crews from six stations were dispatched.

A nearby building was also evacuated by Devon and Cornwall Police while the fire was extinguished.

The cause of the blaze was accidental and the coach, which was empty, was about "80% damaged", Devon and Somerset Fire Service said.

Two other vehicles near the scene of the fire were also damaged.

A Facebook post from Newton Abbot Fire Station said crews used pads to soak up fuel, which had leaked from a ruptured diesel tank and other "runoff from firefighting operations".

The post, which included several photographs of the damaged vehicle, added the coach was removed from the road on Thursday evening.
