Bin collections in Leeds have been postponed due to extreme cold weather forecast for the weekend.

The city council said any collection due this Sunday would be delayed by a week due to safety concerns.

A statement said the council would be "taking 60 large vehicles off the road in challenging road conditions", ensuring the safety of staff and the public.

The authority apologised for any inconvenience caused by the unexpected changes and thanked residents for their support and assistance.

It said the rescheduled collection on 12 January would "ensure all bins that will be extra full at this time of the year are collected, albeit a week later than usual".

On Friday, the Met Office issued an amber weather for snow for Yorkshire and the Humber between 21:00 to 23:59 GMT on Saturday.
