Ice cream lovers are being urged to invent their own flavour to go on sale to mark the 50th anniversary of a Jersey charity which supports people with learning disabilities.

Les Amis is celebrating its golden anniversary this year and Jersey Dairy has teamed up with Channel Islands Coop for the competition.

The winning recipe will go on sale in a limited edition with proceeds going to the charity.

Les Amis supports around 100 islanders with services including homes, as well as support to live independently and "home from home" respite care.

It also runs a business collecting and recycling used cooking oil from hotels and restaurants on Jersey.

Les Amis' managing director Shaun Findlay said: "Over the past five decades Les Amis has achieved amazing things for amazing people and this is another example of how we can all support Les Amis whilst having fun and enjoying yourself."

The creator of the winning recipe will scoop a VIP tour of Jersey Dairy with a guest to watch their flavour being brought to life.

They will also receive a case of their own ice cream to take home.

Carl Winn, the Coop's head of sustainability, said the company was delighted to support the charity and its work "empowering islanders" with learning disabilities.

He said the team was looking forward to seeing the entries and the winning recipe hitting the shops.

Jersey Dairy's managing director Eamon Fenlon has encouraged entrants to "think outside of the box" and cook up creative ideas.

Entries cannot include nuts and the competition deadline is Friday 21 February.
