New car park proposed for memorial arboretum
A car park for nearly 1,000 vehicles could be created at the National Memorial Arboretum under new proposals.
The planning application, submitted to Lichfield District Council, proposes to build the car park south of the main entrance of the site in Alrewas, Staffordshire.
It would replace the current temporary parking on Alrewas Quarry and along with the 983 spaces, it would include 18 bus parking spaces as well as welfare facilities.
A statement with the application, submitted by landowner Tarmac and the National Memorial Arboretum, said a new pedestrian crossing would also be created on Croxall Road.
The development of the 3.5 hectare (8.6 acre) parcel of land is part of the first phase of the restoration of Alrewas Quarry.
Pre-application advice given by planning officers at the district council suggested the authority would support the development.
