Three public consultation sessions will be held to look at designs for two memorial gardens for families affected by the Legacy Independent Funeral Directors investigation.

Ashes and 35 bodies were recovered from the Hull funeral directors in March 2024 after Humberside Police received a report of "concern for care of the deceased".

A memorial garden at Chanterlands Avenue Crematorium in Hull, next to the Northern Cemetery, will hold recovered ashes. A second garden will be built at Lelley Fields Crematorium, near Preston, East Yorkshire.

The first consultation will be held on 5 April at the Hull History Centre.

Further sessions will take place on 14 and 23 April at Champney Treasure House, Beverley, and Lonsdale Community Centre, Hull, respectively. An online survey is also available.

Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the memorials would serve as a "lasting tribute to all those affected".

The two authorities said they hoped the main building work would be completed by "late spring or early summer".

In January, police announced they had handed a file to the Crown Prosecution Service containing 13,000 exhibits. The CPS is considering whether to bring charges.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on 9 March last year on suspicion of prevention of a lawful and decent burial, fraud by false representation and fraud by abuse of position.

A 54-year-old woman was arrested in July on suspicion of money laundering.

Both remain on conditional police bail.
