Seven people have been taken to hospital after a fire in a ground floor flat in Paisley.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in the Renfrewshire town's Barterholm Road at about 23:00 on Sunday.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said seven ambulances, special response teams, paramedics and a trauma team were dispatched to the incident.

Three patients were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, two to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and two to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Two other patients were treated at the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said the fire was in a four-storey building. Four fire engines and one height vehicle were sent to the blaze.

Eight properties were evacuated as a precaution and people affected were provided with alternative accommodation.

An SFRS spokesperson said: "The fire has been extinguished and one fire appliance remains at the scene."

Police Scotland said an investigation was underway to establish the cause of the fire.
