A man who attacked his mother and threatened to kill her has been jailed for nine months.
Jamie McCarron, 31, of Slievemore Park in Londonderry, admitted assaulting his mother on 8 September 2024.
He also admitted making a threat to kill, behaviour deemed to be abusive on dates between 1 July 2024 to 9 September 2024, and having Class C controlled drugs on 8 September 2024.
Londonderry Magistrates' Court was that police received a report from the woman that someone had been abusing her for a sustained period of time.
'Physical and mental abuse'
The woman said she had been subjected to "both physical and mental abuse" by McCarron, which included him calling her names and throwing things at her.
The woman said the defendant had threatened to kill her and that she was "fearful" to stay in her own home.
When police responded, they found 200 Diazepam tablets in the defendant's pocket.
Defence barrister Michael Donaghey said it was "a very unpleasant" set of facts.
He said McCarron had had a drug problem and that people with addiction issues often lashed out at the ones who care the most for them.
The barrister said that the language used by his client was "horrendous ".
