Winds and heavy rain cause disruption in South

Strong winds and heavy rain brought on by Storm Herminia have caused disruption across the south of England.

Flood alerts have been put in place for parts of Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Oxfordshire and Berkshire.

Ferry and Hover travel services have been cancelled and trains have been delayed.

Hundreds of people have been left without power across the region caused by unplanned outages, according to SSEN.

The latest storm was named by the Spanish weather service Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) on Friday.

It made its way to the UK on Sunday, bringing with it high winds and heavy rain.

Dorset Council said the Environment Agency asked it to "deploy flood barriers" at West Bay near Bridport, as it is anticipating "large waves and coastal overtopping on Sunday evening and Monday morning".

Ferry operator Red Funnel, which connects the Isle of Wight to Southampton said it had suspended its foot passenger and car ferry services because of the adverse weather.

Hover travel, which links the island with Portsmouth has also cancelled its services.

SSEN has reported multiple unplanned power outages has engineers on sites across the south working to restore electricity to affected homes and businesses.
