Canon suspended after safeguarding complaint

Leaders of Truro Cathedral say they have suspended the Rev Canon Alan Bashforth.

They said the canon's suspension followed a safeguarding complaint relating to a vulnerable adult.

The suspension of up to three months was "pending an independent safeguarding assessment", they added.

Arrangements had been made with the diocesan safeguarding team to support the cathedral's safeguarding work during this period, they added.

Leaders said the period of suspension would enable the complaint to be investigated and the complainant safeguarded.
