Woman, 23, held over suspected Beachy Head suicide

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting the suicide of a woman whose body was found at Beachy Head.

The body of the victim, also aged 23 and from Essex, was discovered near Eastbourne, East Sussex, after emergency services responded to reports of concerns for a woman's safety at 17:20 GMT on New Year's Eve.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious and her next of kin have been informed.

Sussex Police said the arrested woman, also from Essex, had been questioned on suspicion of intentionally doing an act capable of encouraging or assisting the suicide of another and she had been bailed, pending a further investigation.
