Trial set for boy, 17, charged with murder
A 17-year-old boy has appeared in crown court charged with the murder of an 18-year-old man who was stabbed to death in Derbyshire.
Noah Smedley died after being injured in Ilkeston on Saturday evening.
The boy charged with his murder, who cannot be named for legal reasons, spoke only to confirm his name during a short hearing on Friday at Derby Crown Court.
A two-week trial was set for 28 July.
No application for bail was made and the defendant was remanded into secure accommodation.
Derbyshire Police said officers were called to Heanor Road by East Midlands Ambulance Service, due to reports of a man collapsed in the road.
They were called at 20:20 GMT on Saturday, and Mr Smedley died at the scene just before 21:00.
As well as being charged with murder, the 17-year-old has been charged with possession of a bladed article.
In an update on Friday, police said four other 17-year-old boys who were arrested on suspicion of murder had been released with no further action.
Two 16-year-old girls were previously arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the fatal stabbing.
The force said one of the girls has been released on bail pending further enquiries, and the second girl was released with no further action.
A 52-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail pending further inquiries, the force added.
