Boy, 17, charged with murder of 18-year-old man

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of an 18-year-old man who was stabbed to death in Derbyshire.

Police were called at about 20:20 GMT on Saturday by East Midlands Ambulance Service to reports a man had been stabbed in Rose Avenue, Ilkeston.

Noah Smedley died in nearby Heanor Road just before 21:00, Derbyshire Police said.

The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Four other 17-year-old boys were also arrested on suspicion of murder.

Derbyshire Police said one of the boys had been released on bail pending further inquiries, while the others have been released with no further action.

Two 16-year-old girls and a 52-year-old man were detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.

One girl and the man have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The other girl has been released with no further action.

The force said the investigation was ongoing and anyone with any information had been asked to get in touch.
