Traffic on the M11 southbound came to a halt on Sunday

A major motorway has reopened after a vehicle fire and spillage closed part of the road.

Traffic on the M11 southbound was held up between junction nine for Great Chesterford and junction eight for London Stansted Airport, Essex, on Sunday morning.

Fire crews attended the scene and people faced delays of up to 60 minutes on approach, a National Highways spokesperson said.

They added: "There is approximately 1.5 miles congestion following this incident so please allow time for these delays to clear."
