A new 'one stop shop' diagnostic centre for Nottinghamshire will open at the end of the year, it has been confirmed.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said the facility in Mansfield was the first of its kind in the county and would offer earlier access to services including MRIs, X-rays, ultrasounds and CT scans.

After getting planning permission, work on the building officially began with a ceremony in December.

The trust said the £22.5m centre should be completed by December 2025.

'Game changer'

A spokesman for the trust said: "Work on site is progressing well, and we are pleased with how things are moving forward.

"Sherwood Forest Hospitals is currently planning to host a topping out ceremony in spring 2025, as we look forward to the completion of the purpose-built Mansfield Community Diagnostic Centre by December 2025."

Dr. James Thomas, clinical lead for the project, said: "This purpose-built structure will be a game-changer for patients, reducing referral times and enhancing care by bringing state-of-the-art diagnostics together in one location.

"We are proud to take this step forward, not only in improving healthcare for our communities but also in embracing sustainability and economic growth in the region."

The scheme will also see improvements to local bus stop infrastructure, plans to secure a 10% net gain of biodiversity in the area and a contribution towards local travel plan monitoring.

It is also aiming to achieve a 90% recycling rate for waste generated onsite during the demolition of the existing building.

The site was originally used for the Mansfield Workhouse, then the Victoria Hospital, and a permanent display in the new building will highlight this history.
