Emergency repairs are to be carried out overnight on a burst sewer on the M8 near Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow.

The westbound off-slip at junction 25A was closed from about 08:30 until 16:45 on Friday as the carriageway was flooded with contaminated water.

Traffic Scotland confirmed the issue had been caused by a fractured sewage pipe.

Scottish Water said the junction would be closed from 22:00 to 06:00 for the duration of the repairs, which are expected to take about a week.

A spokesperson said: "We thank road users for their ongoing patience while these essential repairs are carried out.

"We understand the disruption this may cause motorists however we are liaising closely with Amey and working to minimise the disruption as much as possible."
