M8 section reopens after raw sewage flooding
A section of the M8 has re-opened following a raw sewage spill near Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow.
The westbound off-slip at junction 25A was closed from about 08:30 until around 16:45 as the carriageway was flooded with contaminated water.
One road user said on social media that their car had been "completely engulfed" by the sewage.
Traffic Scotland said the issue had been caused by a "fractured sewage pipe" but that the water had now been cleared.
It posted on social media: "The off-slip has now reopened at Junction 25A to Braehead.
"The contaminated water has now been cleared from the carriageway and traffic is able to pass."
Scottish Water earlier said it was actively dealing with a burst sewer main which had caused "localised flooding".
In a statement on its website, it said: "Our operatives have isolated this main to prevent any further flooding of the roadway and surrounding area."
On social media shoppers who had visited Braehead said the smell was so strong that they noticed it from within the shopping centre's car park.
