A household waste site which was closed for 11 weeks for "essential improvements" is due to reopen later.

The recycling centre in Pocklington temporarily closed in January to allow for the installation of a new drainage system.

During the work, residents from the town faced a journey of about seven miles (11km) to the nearest alternative site.

However, the council said the closure had been unavoidable.

Carl Skelton, director of streetscene services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "I want to thank residents in the Pocklington area for bearing with us while we completed this necessary work, and I'm glad we can welcome them back to the site."
