Islanders' films show life in the 1970s

A collection of films capturing life in the Western Isles 1970s have been digitised and made available for the public to view.

Cinema Sgìre aimed to help residents in the Outer Hebrides document what was important to them.

The project ran from 1977 until 1981, and was led by Michael Russell who would go on to become an SNP MSP and Scottish government minister.

The collection of tapes was discovered, digitised and is now looked after by the National Library of Scotland.
