Careless driver swerves into police car's path
North Yorkshire Police have released footage of a careless driver who swerved into the path of a squad car on a 999 call.
The police vehicle was using sirens and blue lights on the A64 near West Heslerton in December when an oncoming vehicle drifted onto the wrong side of the road while trying to overtake a car that had slowed down.
The officer's reactions narrowly avoided a head-on crash and the driver was later fined £666 and given nine points on their licence at Scarborough Magistrates' Court, where they admitted careless driving, the force said.
TC Joseph Schramm said: "You can see the lack of awareness of vehicles on the opposite carriageway. The presence of the police car could not have been more obvious."
