Peak District dam lit up to mark VE Day

A dam in the Peak District has been lit up in red, white and blue to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Derwent Reservoir in Derbyshire was one of the sites where pilots practiced dangerous low-flying ahead of the Dambusters raid in 1943.

Water company Severn Trent illuminated Derwent Dam and projected images of Lancaster bombers on its two towers.

"We are so proud our Derwent Dam played a part in the Dambusters story and wanted to recognise the bravery of all those involved, and the sacrifices made by so many during this mission and the Second World War," Neil Morrison, HR director and lead for Derbyshire at Severn Trent said.
