Human skull found near derelict Bolton hotel
A human skull has been found in undergrowth outside a derelict hotel.
It was discovered at the site near Blackburn Road in Egerton, Bolton, in the early hours of Monday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
Detectives said the "very surprising" discovery was not linked to any other investigations and no arrests have been made.
Forensic analysis is ongoing to establish the age of the skull and how long it has been there for.
'Sheer intrigue'
"This was a very surprising discovery made in the early hours of Monday morning and we have been working ever since to establish the circumstances," Det Insp Debbie Hurst said.
"By the very nature of this discovery, we understand some concern in the community and of course the sheer intrigue this investigation brings with it.
"However we are confident there is no threat to the public and that this isn't currently linked to any other ongoing investigations."
She urged anyone with information about the discovery to contact the force.
