Nicki Minaj has tweeted about how she has suffered sexism within the hip hop industry.

The 34-year-old star made the comments after rapper Russ said people needed to respect her more.

Nicki tweeted that women must work twice as hard to get half the respect that men get and asked: "When will this stop?"

She told her followers that she would have to wear "baggy pants" in order for men to give her credit.

She also quote-tweeted a Kendrick Lamar tweet from seven years ago, where he said that more men hate her than women do.

"This is so telling. I'd have to wear some baggy pants and Timbs for men to openly give props," she added.

Nicki recently spoke about the issue of female rappers in hip-hop during an interview with XXL.

She said that for a long time female rappers were "overlooked" and did not get much credit.

"There wasn't a big female rap presence right before I got in. So, my role was really reintroducing the female rapper to pop culture."
