The shop and nursery could be built in Aqua Drive, Hampton Water

A day nursery and new convenience store have been added to plans for 1,700 new homes in a city.

They would be built south of Peterborough city centre in Aqua Drive, Hampton Water, if the city council approves the application.

About 3,000 homes are planned across four Hampton villages, dubbed Hamptons East, with the scheme first mooted in 1993.

Blueprints showed the shop and nursery would be built on former agricultural land, opposite St John Henry Newman Catholic Primary School.

A statement from developer The Harkalm Group Ltd said the new buildings "would not result in a material impact" on the surrounding roads.

There was also a "low probability of flooding", according to a flood risk assessment seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The development neighbours Hampton Hargate and Hampton Vale, which have already been completed.

Hampton Beach, Hampton Gardens and Hamptons Woods are among the others still being built.
