Police are appealing for information about the incident

A woman was sexually assaulted while she was pushing a pram, police say.

A man reportedly tried to engage her in an unwanted conversation on 6 July while she was walking on Northgate in Bridgwater, Somerset.

The woman became distressed when he followed her and she sought help from a couple to stop his advances, who Avon and Somerset Police want to speak to, the force said.

A 37-year-old man from Kingston-Upon-Hull in East Yorkshire was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and released under investigation.

Sgt Nicola Brown said the force was not aware of any similar incidents and officers had carried out reassurance patrols.

The suspect is described as a white male who was wearing a black T-shirt with reflective strips, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

"We are aware there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident and would ask anybody who witnessed the incident or has any relevant information which could assist our enquiries to come forward," Sgt Brown added.
