A dangerous driver hit speed bumps at more than double the speed limit while evading police.

Warwickshire Police said Patrick Hannifin drove at 80mph (128km/h) through a residential area of Rugby on 1 May 2021.

When officers gave chase, he sped away in a 30mph (48km/h) zone, cut corners and drove on the wrong side of the road.

The 37-year-old, of Vervain Drive, Rugby, was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on 22 January to 27 weeks' imprisonment, suspended for two years, having admitted dangerous driving and possession of cannabis.

The force said Hannifin only came to a stop after he hit a kerb on the wrong side of the road, causing the front wheel to shatter and both offside tyres to immediately deflate.

He then ditched his car and was chased through Newbold Centenary Park by officers before being apprehended.

In addition to the suspended jail term, Hannifin was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.
