Police shelve inquiry into fatal attack on dog

Police investigating a "targeted" fatal attack on a dog have put the case on hold due to a lack of evidence.

Officers previously said the animal, believed to have been an XL bully, was deliberately attacked on Burnham Lane, Slough, on 29 September and died later from its injuries.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of offences including causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal and criminal damage.

Detectives said the suspects remained on bail for drugs offences, but the matter of the dog was no longer being actively investigated due to a lack of witness support.

In a statement, Thames Valley Police said: "Officers have conducted an investigation into the attack on the dog.

"Due to a lack of witness support and no CCTV or other evidence, this matter has been filed pending any further information coming to light."

Previously, the force said the men from Slough, aged 20 and 22, had been bailed over the dog attack and for allegedly intending to supply class B drugs.

The 20-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

A third man, who was arrested later, is also on bail over drugs offences, police added.
