Tram service expected to resume after crash

All tram services in Nottingham are expected to resume later after a car crashed into a tram and caused it to derail.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Queens Walk in The Meadows after the incident on Monday.

Tram operator Nottingham Express Transit (NET) said the driver of the car, the car passenger and the tram driver were taken to hospital and three passengers were treated by paramedics at the scene.

The operator said a temporary solution had been installed after services were cancelled between Southchurch Drive and Nottingham Station, with services to Clifton expected to resume this evening.

Trevor Stocker, head of operations at NET, said the crash caused "significant damage" to the tram and overhead structures.

He added: "While this temporary solution is in place, work will begin on the extensive, permanent repair works to address the damage caused.

"This may take a number of weeks to complete, including full surveys and safety inspections.

"We'd like to thank the public for their ongoing patience while we work to return our network back to normal service, as well as the emergency services for their prompt response and co-operation when the incident first occurred."
