Man charged with assault over knife attack in Dublin
A 29-year-old man has been charged over a knife attack in which three men were injured in Dublin.
The men, aged from their mid-20s to mid-40s, were hurt in the incident in the Stoneybatter area of the city on Sunday afternoon.
Gabriel Fereira Motta Valladeres appeared in Dublin District Court charged with four offences.
The defendant, with an address at Broadstone Avenue in the city, is charged with two counts of assault causing harm, as well as possession of a box-cutting knife and possession of scissors.
He is accused of assaulting one man on Oxmanstown Road and another man on nearby Niall Street.
He is also accused of possession of scissors on Manor Place and possession of a box-cutting knife on Murtagh Road.
A detective with the Gardaí (Irish police) said Mr Valladeres, who is originally from Brazil, was arrested at about 22:30 local time on Monday and charged about an hour later.
When the charges were put to him, he replied "no comment" to the first charge and then "I was afraid to be killed" to the second.
His lawyer did not make a bail application but asked for immediate medical attention for the defendant.
The judge ordered he receive that treatment and remanded him in custody until the next hearing, which is due to take place on 18 February.
