A section of a major route between the Isle of Man's capital and the north has reopened after it was closed because of "significant flooding".

The A18 Mountain Road had been shut from Ramsey and the Bungalow for several hours due to a build up of water on the Verandah.

The Department of Infrastructure said it had made the carriageway "unsafe for travel", and a gulley sucker was used to clear the drains of sediment.

A yellow weather warning for coastal overtopping was in place until midday with strong to gale force winds set to continue throughout the day.

Police said the northern end of Douglas Promenade had been closed for a time to avoid any danger to drivers from crashing waves.

Other places at risk included the central part of Douglas Promenade, alongside coastal areas in Castletown and Rushen, and promenades in Laxey and Ramsey.

Motorists were warned to "be aware" of possible travel delays, a risk of minor damage, and temporary disruption on some roads.

The latest poor weather conditions follow Friday's Storm Éowyn, which resulted in the declaration of a major incident due to the number of trees brought down in the storm force winds.
