An arts centre in Halifax has closed and cancelled all of its upcoming events.

Square Chapel CIC, which runs the venue, said in a statement on its website the closure would enable them to work with "professional services" to discuss its future.

Based in a Grade II-listed building, the centre was taken over by the non-profit organisation in 2020 after it had gone into administration during the Covid pandemic.

The group said anyone with tickets for cancelled events would be refunded automatically on the card they had used to purchase them.

In the statement, Square Chapel CIC said they had "made the decision to close its doors whilst we work with professional services to discuss the future of the venue".

"This means that unfortunately all future events have been cancelled until a decision is made about the future of the venue."

The group said it would directly contact anyone who had a business relationship with the centre, including any creditors and debtors to "advise further".

"As the outcome of the professional advice is received, we'll update this website and social media," it concludued.

The Square Chapel, which is adjacent to Piece Hall, was built in 1772 and was derelict when it was bought to be converted into an arts centre in 1988.
