Man charged with murder over woman's death

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a 93-year-old woman in Cornwall.

David Botham, 65, of Cherrill Gardens in Bude, appeared at Exeter Magistrates' Court earlier and was remanded in custody.

Devon and Cornwall Police said Angela Botham was pronounced dead at an address on Cherrill Gardens on Sunday.

The force said the defendant and victim were known to each other.

Botham was due to appear at Exeter Crown Court on Thursday for a bail hearing.

Senior investigating officer Det Insp Rob Smith said on Wednesday it was a "very sad case".

"The community should be reassured that this is being treated as an isolated incident and at this time we are not seeking anyone else in connection to the death," he said.
