An investigation has been launched after firefighters battled a fire at the bungalow in West Sussex which almost completely destroyed the building's roof.

Thick plumes of smoke billowed from the property during the blaze in Twyford Road, Durrington, on Sunday.

Six fire engines were to the scene, and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) said crews faced a "well-developed" fire in the ground floor and roof space.

They said firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and stopped it spreading to neighbouring properties.

A joint investigation with Sussex Police is ongoing, said WSFRS.

Crews would shortly return the area to carry out community fire safety activities, they added.
