A Leeds teenager has been sentenced to 20 months in a young offender institution after taking part in the violent disorder in the city last summer.

Adi-Petronel Petrechiva, of Harehills Road, appeared at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.

The 18-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to a violent disorder offence linked to the trouble which flared in the Harehills area on 18 July.

West Yorkshire Police said he was the sixth person to be given a custodial sentence following the "disgraceful" scenes that night.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Steve Dodds, said the force had made 57 arrests in connection with the trouble.

"We are determined to bring everyone involved in the Harehills disorder to justice and it is still not too late for anyone who has information which could assist our enquiries into the disorder last July to come forwards," he added.
