A cyclist has died following a collision with a car on a residential street.

Bedfordshire Police was called at about 14:30 BST on Friday to reports of a crash on Broad Avenue in Bedford, at the junction with Gloucester Road.

The cyclist, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the car's driver stopped at the scene and was helping with inquiries.

Det Sgt Craig Wheeler, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire serious collisions investigation unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the person who died in this tragic collision.

"We're working to establish the circumstances of the incident and would encourage anyone with dash-cam footage, or anyone who witnessed the incident, to get in touch."
