Library to close for £3.3m revamp
A city's library will close this month as part of a £3.3m transformation.
Carlisle Library will be temporarily shut from 25 January until the end of February for preparatory works, Cumberland Council said.
Service points will be available elsewhere in the city during this time, the authority added.
The authority said a temporary library will open in part of the existing library at the end of February while the work is ongoing.
The revamp is being funded by the government as part of a £19.7m Carlisle Town Deal programme.
Designs include a children's zone, new study spaces and adult learning classrooms.
Structural works will also be undertaken, including rewiring, at the site located within The Lanes shopping centre.
- Service points will be available at library links including at the community centres at Morton Manor, Denton Holme and Harraby
- Requests will still be processed, and the council's digital library will remain available via the Borrowbox app
- The Adult Learning service has relocated to the civic centre in Carlisle
A timeline for the scheme's completion has not yet been announced.
