Teenage pedestrian critical after being hit by car

A 17-year-old girl is seriously ill in hospital after being struck by a car near Edinburgh.

The crash, which involved a black MG HS car, happened on Haddington Road in Musselburgh at about 16:15 on Friday.

Emergency services attended and the teenager was taken to hospital where her condition is described as "critical".

The 37-year-old male driver was also taken to hospital, and was arrested and charged in relation to the incident. He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Another man, 43, who had been travelling as a passenger in the car, did not require medical treatment.

The road was closed following the crash while investigations were carried out.

Police Scotland Sgt Dominic Doyle said: "We are working to establish the full circumstances of this incident and I would ask anyone who has yet to speak to us to get in touch.
