Elderly man and woman found dead after house fire

A man and a woman have been found dead after a night-time house fire.

Police and firefighters were called at 04:00 BST on Monday to Heron Close in Alton, Hampshire. Details have only just been released.

A man aged in his 90s and a woman in her 80s were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating the blaze and have appealed for anyone with information or private video footage to contact them.

In a statement, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "An investigation is underway alongside Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire and establish the circumstances of what took place.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have information that could assist with our inquiries.

"This includes anyone who has CCTV or doorbell footage in the area, or anyone who has dashcam footage of the area around this time."
