Dog killed and woman injured in street attack

A man has been arrested after a dog was killed and a woman alleged assaulted in a Devon town, police said.
Bideford Police were called to Clovelly Road, Bideford, at about 13:15 GMT on Wednesday.
Officers said a woman suffered facial injuries in the alleged assault, while at the same time a Staffordshire bull terrier attacked another dog, which was seriously injured and later died of its injuries.
A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of assault ABH and being a person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death, they said.
'Upsetting incident'
Police said the man, of no fixed abode, Bideford, had been released on bail, pending further inquiries.
Officers said the man and woman were believed to be known to each other.
Det Sgt Donna Money said the dog was seized and remained in police-approved kennels.
She said: "This is an upsetting incident, but I would like to reassure the community that inquiries are ongoing into this matter."
