A woman who died in a suspected hit and run had a "true heart of gold" and was always there for others, her family has said.

Lydia La Polla, 47, from Wrexham, died in hospital two days after the crash in Hightown, Wrexham, at 21:30 GMT on 24 March.

The crash took place during a police pursuit with a silver Mercedes, which hit a Toyota car Ms La Polla was travelling in, North Wales Police said.

The force, which has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, said they were looking for one of two men who left the scene.

Ms Polla's family said they were "truly devastated and heartbroken" by her death.

"Lydia had a true heart of gold and would always be there for others with her selfless acts of kindness.

"She was devoted to her family and friends," they said adding that "life will never be the same without her".

The family also asked for privacy.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on bail, police said, adding that "extensive enquiries" are ongoing to locate one of two men who left the scene.

Det Ch Supt Sian Beck said Ms Polla's family was being supported by specially trained officers.

She urged anyone with information on the incident to get in touch.
