A violent burglar who absconded from an open prison in Cheshire has been found and arrested, police have said.

Cheshire Police on Monday said Colin Williams failed to return to HMP Thorn Cross in Appleton, near Warrington, as scheduled on 30 June.

The 28-year-old was serving a sentence for aggravated burglary and assault.

The force earlier said Williams had been arrested following their call for help from the public.
