Six people have been arrested after a police car was reverse-rammed by another vehicle at an organised car meet in York.

Concerns were raised about the gathering on Rufforth Airfield when some vehicles began spilling out onto public roads just after 11:00 BST on Sunday, North Yorkshire Police said.

A white Audi SUV reversed into a police car as it attempted to leave on the B1224, and the driver abandoned the vehicle.

Five men aged 36, 30, 29, 28 and 26, and a 15-year-old boy, all from Birmingham, were arrested on the airfield and later released under investigation.

Three vehicles, including the white Audi, were recovered for forensic examinations.

No officers were injured as a result of the collision, but the police car had to be taken off the road, the force said.

Class A drugs were also recovered as part of the investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
