Stop-and-search order extended after disorder
GoogleA stop-and-search order has been extended for a further 24 hours after three people were injured and eight arrested following disorder outside a barber shop.
Two boys, aged 15 and 17, and a 35-year-old woman required hospital treatment after the disturbance in Orchard Way, Banbury, on Friday afternoon.
Four boys, aged 15 to 17, and four men, aged 19 to 25, all from Banbury, were held on suspicion of affray. One of the 17-year-olds was also arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.
A Section 60 order, imposed on Friday afternoon in a bid to prevent further violence, has been extended until 17:00 BST on Sunday, Thames Valley Police said.
The force said a group of people had been involved in a "public disorder incident" outside the barber shop at about 14:20 on Friday.
It said all those arrested had been released on bail.
The Section 60 order allows officers to stop and search anyone in the designated area.
Det Insp James Holden-White said: "These are emergency powers and the threshold to implement them is very high, however, we are using them to keep our communities safe.
"If you are stopped by an officer, please do not be worried as this does not mean that you are in trouble."
The boundary of the stop-and-search area starts at the junction of Orchard Way and Gillett Road, on to Orchard way to the junction of Warwick Road, on to Warwick Road to the junction of Bath Road, Bath Road to the junction of Gillett Road and from Gillet Road to the junction of Orchard Way.
It includes the shopping precinct at the junction of Orchard Way and The Fairway.
The force is appealing for witnesses and anyone with information or footage of the incident.
