A man has been charged with rape after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted on a footbridge in Derby.

Derbyshire Police said at about 01:00 GMT on 15 November, the teenage girl was attacked on what is known as the Rainbow Bridge, which crosses St Alkmund's Way near to the Leonardo Hotel.

A man was arrested following information from a CCTV appeal by the force, police added.

Sameh Elsayed was later charged with three counts of rape, and one count of sexual assault.

The 36-year-old, of Broke Walk, Hackney, London, was remanded in custody after appearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court earlier this month, the force added.
