Man dies following assault in Dublin

A man in his 30s has died following an assault in the Shancastle area of west Dublin.

Gardaí (Irish police) and emergency services were alerted to an assault at a residence at about 05:50 local time on Monday.

The man was found unresponsive and taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead.

A man in his 30s has been arrested.

The scene is currently preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.

Gardaí said a senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Lucan Garda Station.

A family liaison officer will be assigned to support the family of the dead man.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with camera footage, including motorists with dashcam footage from the area between 05:00 and 06:00 local time on Monday, to contact them.
