Man arrested over hospital fraud claims found dead

A man arrested during a probe into a healthcare professional who allegedly worked without the appropriate qualifications was later found dead, it has emerged.
Cambridgeshire Police and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said they were investigating claims against a worker, based at Addenbrooke's Urgent Treatment Centre, Cambridge, in August 2023.
A man and woman, both from Norfolk, were arrested on suspicion of fraud on 9 November 2023 but released on conditional bail.
The man was found dead in Norfolk the following day, police said. The woman was later released with no further action.
The two people were arrested following allegations reported by the trust on 14 August 2023.
It said a registered healthcare professional had worked in its Urgent Treatment Centre without the qualifications appropriate to their advanced practice role.
According to the hospital's website, the treatment centre was for patients who were not in a life-threatening condition, but needed to see a doctor or nurse out-of-hours.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: "On the afternoon of Friday, 10 November 2023, the man was found dead in Norfolk. Police from Norfolk attended the scene.
"His death is not being treated as suspicious and the case has been passed to the coroner.
"The woman arrested was later released with no further action. She was informed of this decision in December 2023."
