A man who had 90,000 child abuse images saved on his devices has been jailed for 10 years.

Police said unemployed Daniel Tunney, of Manor Way, Crewe, was a prolific sex offender who posed a significant risk to children.

The 42-year-old appeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday and had previously admitted making indecent images of children and breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Cheshire Police said they searched his house in September and seized a mobile phone, hard drive and a memory card.

Following digital forensic analysis, officers discovered Tunney was in possession of thousands of images and videos of child abuse.

Of them, 603 were deemed category A images and 240 category A videos - the most serious.

Police said Tunney responded "no comment" during questioning but was charged due to the amount of evidence gathered.

"During our investigation, we found that he was in possession of more than 90,000 indecent images of child sexual abuse," Det Sgt Nathanael Johnston said.

"Through the work of our officers, we were able to quickly bring him to justice and he is now facing the consequences of his actions behind bars."

As part of his registration conditions for earlier sexual offences, Tunney was required to notify police of any digital devices he owns or had access to.
