Thousands of people have gathered for the first day of the glamourous Royal Ascot meeting.

More than 250,000 people are expected at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire over this week, including King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The event was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 and is now well known as a key social occasion as well as a sporting event.

The racecourse said it would show "racing at its most exquisite".

BBC Radio Berkshire will have coverage throughout the week.
