The rights to the first season of TV show Bergerac have been sold to nine countries ahead of its UK premiere later in February, the island's tourism board has said.

Visit Jersey said the rebooted show would mean Jersey's government would start to recoup some the £1.2m it had invested in the production, as it has secured a 12.5% commission of international sales.

The new series is a reimagining of the iconic 1980s BBC detective drama starring John Nettles, which was also set in the island.

Ben Bickerton, from producers BlackLight TV, said the reimagined version would "delight fans of the original and introduce Bergerac and the beautiful island of Jersey to a new audience around the world".

Distributors Banijay Rights said Bergerac had been bought by stations in seven northern European countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden - as well as New Zealand and Australia.

Visit Jersey said the company was negotiating with TV stations in other countries to sell the programme there as well.

While the original version was broadcast on BBC One, the reboot will be shown on UKTV with the first show on 27 February 2025.
